An up-to-date, clear and interesting introduction to our magnificent moon from the the award-winning author of science books for children. Shining light on all kinds of fascinating facts about our moon, this simple, introductory book includes information on how the moon affects the oceans’ tides, why the same side of the moon always faces earth, why we have eclipses, and more.
Why is it that some children sail through school with no problem at all, while others find it a difficult or unhappy experience? And why do some children develop behavioural problems while others don’t? Cornelia Hansen believes that each child is unique and needs special management in order to thrive. While working on a Master’s Degree in Child Development, Cornelia was introduced to a longitudinal study done in the Fifties on temperament in children. At the time, she was also studying astrology and the idea came to her that she might be able to connect the child development study to astrology. After all, hadn’t the concept of temperament been with us from ancient times? Isn’t it still part of analyzing someone’s natal chart?
The modern concept of temperament as being the cause of individual differences which appear at birth and continue over time has been widely accepted in the field of child development and appears in every child development textbook. In this pioneering study of temperament in children and young people, Cornelia examines copious case histories from her experience as a marriage, family and child therapist; with the welfare of the child firmly at the heart of the birth chart, she searches for ways to help parents understand their offspring better – and thus achieve a good outcome for everyone. Ideal for anyone working with children in the classroom, or in any capacity, this book will help parents, carers and teachers to discern the individual needs of a child that will enable them to flourish in the classroom and beyond.
The mere mention of the word `teenager’ can strike fear into the heart of the bravest soul, and yet there are some truly heroic individuals who make it a life-long mission to teach them. Alex Trenoweth is one such teacher. She also happens to be an astrologer. Her official subjects are Religious Studies, History and English, but from reading ‘Growing Pains’ you will quickly find that her true passion is the actual students themselves. Using the cycles of Jupiter and Saturn she untangles the confusing conundrum of why groups of students are so different from each other year on year, and sometimes even within year groups. How is an already over-worked teacher supposed to cope with this ongoing challenge? Alex Trenoweth has the answer.
Kids DO come with an instruction manual—their astrological chart. Momstrology is the complete guide to understanding how both you and your little one are guided by the stars, and how your charts play a factor in how you relate to each other.
Identical twin sisters Ophira and Tali Edut, professional astrologers known as the Astrotwins, offer a modern look at astrology and parenting, and combine the two into a guide to understanding yourself, your parenting strengths and weaknesses, your little one’s personality, and how you and your child can best relate to each other. Thoughtful, informative and fun, Momstrology covers every possible mom/child sign combination, and includes valuable information for dads and caregivers too.
To Robert Hand, children are adults in the process of becoming. Parents will welcome this book and use it to help their children learn to cope with the complexities of modern life. Readers of all ages will use it to understand their own patterns of early development. The first four chapters define the roles of mother and father, explain the effects of various planetary energy systems and discuss the meaning of elements and crosses in a child’s chart. Hand analyzes the charts of three children, including Judy Garland and Shirley Temple, to illustrate the astrological principles and psychological insights set forth in his intriguing study of personality development. The major part of the book consists of delineations of horoscope factors, written with young people in mind. Every planet in every sign, house and major aspect, as well as every rising sign, is interpreted in about three hundred words that stress possibilities rather than certainties.
Hellenistic astrology is a tradition of horoscopic astrology that was practiced in the Mediterranean region from approximately the first century BCE until the seventh century CE. It is the source of many of the modern traditions of astrology that still flourish around the world today, although it is only recently that many of the surviving texts of this tradition have become available again for astrologers to study.
Hellenistic Astrology: The Study of Fate and Fortune is the first comprehensive survey of this tradition in modern times. The book covers the history, philosophy, and techniques of ancient astrology, with a special focus on demonstrating how many of the fundamental concepts underlying the practice of western astrology originated during the Hellenistic period.
Plato called it “daimon”, the Romans “genius”, the Christians “guardian angel”; today we use such terms as “heart,” “spirit,” and “soul.” While philosophers and psychologists from Plato to Jung have studied and debated the fundamental essence of our individuality, our modern culture refuses to accept that a unique soul guides each of us from birth, shaping the course of our lives. In this extraordinary best seller, James Hillman presents a brilliant vision of our selves, and an exciting approach to the mystery at the center of every life that asks, “What is it, in my heart, that I must do, be, and have? And why?”
Drawing on the biographies of figures such as Ella Fitzgerald and Mohandas K. Gandhi, Hillman argues that character is fate, that there is more to each individual than can be explained by genetics and environment. The result is a reasoned and powerful road map to understanding our true nature and discovering an eye-opening array of choices – from the way we raise our children to our career paths to our social and personal commitments to achieving excellence in our time.
Behind your familiar astrological chart lies another chart entirely, one whose existence you may never have suspected. It carries your treasures and your wounds. Where the astrologer’s predictions and the realities of your life might not in all honesty have lined up, this chart-behind-the-chart will help you see why. This second, hidden chart tells the tale of who you were in a prior lifetime. It speaks of what wounded you then and what work you left undone. It reveals the old ghosts that still haunt you today and it describes what happens when you let them grab the steering wheel of your life.
This chart explains the reasons you have the chart you have today and it clarifies how you can get on with your evolutionary journey. In Yesterday’s Sky, Steven Forrest completes the picture he began painting in his best seller, The Inner Sky, over twenty-five years ago.
The Planets Within asks us to return to antiquity with new eyes. It centers on one of the most psychological movements of the prescientific age―Renaissance Italy, where a group of “inner Columbuses” charted territories that still give us today a much- needed sense of who we are and where we have come from, and the right routes to take toward fertile and unexplored places.
Chief among these masters of the interior life was Marsilio Ficino, presiding genius of the Florentine Academy, who taught that all things exist in soul and must be lived in its light. This study of Ficino broadens and deepens our understanding of psyche, for Ficino was a doctor of soul, and his insights teach us the care and nurture of soul.
Moore takes as his guide Ficino’s own fundamental tool―imagination. Respecting the integrity and autonomy of images, The Planets Within unfolds a poetics of soul in a kind of dialogue between the laconic remarks of Ficino and the need to give these remarks a life and context for our day.
Some three decades ago, in an attempt to produce a series of symbols that would be relevant to contemporary students of astrology, Marc Edmund Jones and a clairvoyant friend formulated the so-called Sabian symbols. Now Dane Rudhyar has taken these symbols and reinterpreted them to emphasize their character as a cyclic and structured series which formalizes and reveals the archetypal meaning of 360 basic phases of human experience. Rudhyar also demonstrates how the Sabian symbols can be used for divination. Like Tarot cards and the I Ching, they provide clues to the best way to face anxieties, or suggest what alternative courses of action might mean in one’s life. In the form of pictures that are easily recognizable to people today, these symbols can be said to constitute a contemporary, American I Ching, a series of symbols that goes to the very root of planetary significance for our present era.
This pioneering classic provides a new dimension in the use of astrology as a powerful tool in understanding life patterns. “The Lunation Cycle” is a unique technical breakthrough revealing the significance of the cyclic relationship of the sun and moon as phases of a larger process. Rudhyar formulates and describes here for the first time, the eight Soli Lunar types of personalities and the importance of the ‘new moon before birth’ and the ‘progressed new moon charts’. Rudhyar’s innovative presentation of the ‘progressed lunation cycle’ is an invaluable technique providing insight into how to use all life events in the actualisation of inner potentials. The meaning of specific events are viewed as an ordered series of Lunation phases, within the context of your whole life pattern, from birth to death. This is a practical and clear way to anticipate major turning points and transition periods and to understand our individual schedules of unfoldment. This groundbreaking book includes: the sun and moon as a dynamic pattern of relationship; the part of fortune as an index of personality and happiness; the art of fortune in the houses and zodiacal signs; the part of spirit; and, the planets in relationship to the lunation cycle.

Humans have been meditating on the Moon since the beginning of our time on earth. As long as there has been anything we could call astrology, it has been central to all theories of celestial influence. But why do astrologers pay so little attention to its phases? In these pages, Steven Forrest, bestselling author of The Inner Sky, shows how we have been blinded to the lunar phases by a set of cultural attitudes now drifting into extinction. He demonstrates that our Celtic ancestors held the key to understanding lunar phase and he skillfully, clearly, and eloquently turns the key in that lock for us.
Along the way, he also presents the latest research on the powerful but little used tools: the Out of Bounds Moon, lunar speed, and lunar parallax. You’ll also find rare descriptions of the progressed lunation cycle, planetary phase angles and nodal phase. Discover the soul of the moon in this lucid explanation of the Moon’s place in modern humanistic astrological counseling.

This book shows how the discovery of the asteroids Ceres, Pallas Athena, Juno, and Vesta coincided with the shift of a woman. The creating, supporting, nurturing aspect held by the goddess Ceres, the universal mother, brings us to how we feel nurtured and how we function with our roles of mother-child. She embodies the principle of unconditional love. Pallas Athena is our Warrior Goddess, a woman in a man’s world, carrying the principle of creative intelligence. Vesta, our goddess of Focus and Commitment, is our High Priestess. Juno, the Queen of Heaven and Divine Consort, is our capacity for meaningful relationships. Understanding the themes that each goddess holds enriches our understanding of that function and expression in our lives.

Steven Forrest, author of the award-winning and critically acclaimed book on basic astrology, The Inner Sky, sequels that outstanding work with this dynamic text on predictive astrology. Here you will find a brief review of the astrological basics (planets, houses, signs and aspects) and then the heart of the book: Transits – the current positions of the planets in the sky compared to one’s birth chart. Outer planets are discussed in terms of their “Teacher” or “Trickster” potentials. Also addressed is the cycle of the houses and the tasks represented by each. Progressions – a day symbolically equated to a year in one’s life. Thorough explanations of progressed Moon through the houses and signs, and changing angles (Midheaven and Ascendant) are presented. And the Art of Synthesis – how to put it all together. This practical guide to predictive astrology shows the reader how to make better life choices, with a focus on personal freedom and responsibility.

In The Book of Fire, award-winning astrologer Steven Forrest offers a triumphant celebration of human resilience. Supported by all nine astrological “Fire” symbols, your spirit can survive anything – and still go dancing the next day. Regardless of your Sun Sign, the healing magic starts with mastering the paths of Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. It continues as you learn to embrace Mars, Jupiter, and the Sun itself. Your resilience finally blossoms in the three Fire houses: the first, fifth, and ninth.Together, these nine powerful words in astrology’s rich vocabulary are the Life‑Givers. With them on your side, you can eat the Devil for breakfast and spit him out before lunch. In these pages, you will learn how to make friends with each one of these human allies, both as they appear in your natal chart and as they move through it via transits and progressions. Each one of them promises a vibrant gift from the sky – and each one of them is as close to the core of what it takes for you truly to thrive in this human world as the marrow in your bones.Next up: watch for three more volumes in Forrest’s epochal Elements series: The Book of Earth, The Book of Air, and The Book of Water.
In The Book of Air, award-winning astrologer Steven Forrest continues his investigation of the four elements which began with The Book of Fire and The Book of Earth. In this third volume of the series, he focuses on what seems to be a very simple idea: the fine art of truly paying attention. He writes, “Air is what connects our hearts and our minds to the world around us. Astrologically – but also in plain speech – it is the linking element, telegraphing an endless stream of information to us – and letting us send a few telegrams in return. Air makes a mockery of the delusion that we are separate from each other – or, for that matter, from anything else. Air connects. It is what allows us to pay attention, and perhaps to create some good reasons for other people to pay attention to us.”In these pages, Forrest offers a detailed exploration of Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius, along with their planetary rulers and their associated astrological houses: the third, the seventh, and the eleventh. Together, these powerful words in astrology’s magical vocabulary are the key to nothing less than aligning your mind with reality as it actually is.
Award-winning astrologer Steven Forrest continues his epochal Elements Series which he began with The Book of Fire. In this second volume, he offers nothing less than a manual for turning dreams into reality. Regardless of your Sun Sign, the magical art of transmuting aspiration to biographical fact starts with mastering the higher purposes and potentials of Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn. It continues as you learn to forge working alliances with their planetary rulers – Venus, Mercury, and Saturn. Finally, the rubber meets the road in the three Earth houses: the second, the sixth, and the tenth.Together, these nine powerful words in astrology’s magical vocabulary are the key to Making It Real. With all nine of them on your side, you can – quite literally – make your dreams come true. In these pages, you will learn how to forge a deal with each one of these powerful allies, both as they operate in your natal chart and as they move through it via transits and progressions. The Book of Earth promises to help you build a gateway that links sky to earth, imagination to manifestation, and dreams to actual biography.
In The Book of Water, award-winning astrologer Steven Forrest completes his epochal investigation of the four astrological elements. In this fourth volume of the series, he focuses on how people bounce back from hurt and tragedy. In the opening pages, he invokes the haunting image of an old woman dancing on a moonlit beach. He writes, “Every line on the dancer’s face tells a story. Many of those stories are sad ones . . . and yet we are confronted with an inexplicable miracle: the old woman still dances. Of all of life’s mysteries, is there a deeper one? Not that terrible things happen, but that we dance anyway. That we can recover. That spirit regenerates . . . Finding our way back to that dancer is what this book is about. Let’s meet the good medicine of the Water signs – the guardians of the sacred mysteries of healing, regeneration, and recovery.” In these pages, Forrest offers a detailed exploration of Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces, along with their planetary rulers and their associated astrological houses: the fourth, the eighth, and the twelfth. Together, these powerful words in astrology’s magical vocabulary are the key to returning to joy and wholeness no matter what life throws at us.

Follow master astrologer Steven Forrest on an astrological journey into the realm of both darkness and the powers that can transform it: the planetary body Pluto. Whether officially named a planet or not, astrologers everywhere agree that Pluto is a major force. With this groundbreaking work, Steven emerged as one of the foremost voices merging astrological practice with the most courageous forms of humanistic psychology. Upon its initial publication, DELL Horoscope magazine described him as “not only a premier astrologer, but also a wise man.” Written with both the astrologer and the layperson in mind, his words convey practical and useful information that will help anyone navigate Pluto’s labyrinthine passages. Along with detailed cookbook-style explanations of Pluto in the houses and signs, the reader will also find comprehensive information for working with transits and progressions. This book is your one-stop shop for all things Plutonian. But most of all, it’s a beacon of light in some famously dark terrain, pointing the reader towards the transformative gifts Pluto can bear, if we choose to face our lives with consciousness and compassion. This revised second edition includes new Introduction and Afterword.
Over two decades ago, this book exploded onto the scene and has continued to set a new pace for the evolution of astrology itself. Jeff Wolf Green’s writing embodies everything you would expect from Pluto; intense, powerful, riveting, transformative and penetrating .A book that satiates both the desire for knowledge and the deep yearning for true understanding is a rare find indeed, and just as profound as the information included here, is thedeep intuitive awakening it will bring to your own soul. If you want to help yourself and assist other in conscious evolution, rather than simply waiting for it to happen, this book is the essential map for that journey!
Saturn’s darker persona is recognized universally in myth and fairytale. In this classic astrology text, renowned astrologer and Jungian analyst Liz Greene offers a fresh perspective on how to handle the influence of this much-maligned astrological symbol.
In Saturn, Greene shows us how the frustrating experiences connected to this planet can be turned into opportunities for greater insight and meaning in our lives. Saturn, she says, symbolizes a psychic process—one that allows us to utilize the experience of pain for self-discovery and a more fulfilling and complete life.
Greene retraces Saturn’s character through sign, house, aspect, and synastry in a brilliant analysis that reveals his other face: that of the initiator who, for the price of our honesty with ourselves, offers us greater consciousness, self-understanding, and, eventually, freedom.
The material for THE TWELVE ASTROLOGICAL HOUSES: The Way of Creative Accomplishment, was written in 1943-44, immediately following THE ZODIAC as THE UNIVERSAL MATRIX. Like its companion book, it is one of Rudhyar’s most accessible and easy-to-read works. It provides comprehensive descriptions of each of the ten astrological planets in each of the twelve astrological houses. In common with THE UNIVERSAL MATRIX, the astrological interpretations are more striking, psychological and critical than what we came to expect from Rudhyar during the second half of the 20th century. The electronic publication includes hyperlinks to the birth charts of dozens of interesting example nativities.
